Current Status

According to the World Bank’s Doing Business 2020 report, Sri Lanka ranked at 164 with a Doing Business Score of 41.2 in the Enforcing Contracts indicator. Having a lower cost (% of claim value) than the South Asian region, Sri Lanka aiming to improve its performance on reducing time and quality of judicial processes index.

New Initiatives

Sri Lanka is making it easier to resolve a commercial dispute, reducing the time involved in particular.

  • In DB2019, Sri Lanka was recognized for amendments to its Civil Procedures Code, which introduced pre-trial conference facility.
  • The Ministry of Justice and Judicial Services Commission are taking further measures to improve transparency and access to information.
